Seven Corners Travel Insurance: What is Travel Medical Evacuation and Repatriation Insurance?
The Travel Medical Evacuation and Repatriation Insurance is a limited travel policy from Seven Corners Travel Insurance for visitors to the US that covers travel within the US and only covers medical evacuation, repatriation of remains or local burial/cremation.
It does NOT provide coverage for trip cancellation and trip interruption. The policy is valid for 364 days from date of purchase.
Travel Medical Insurance Benefits
Travelers must be engaged full-time in educational activities in the US. The policy cannot be purchased for holiday purposes. Travelers must be at least 14 days old and under the age of 65.
There are three main services provided in the policy:
- Emergency Medical Evacuation and Repatriation
- Return of Mortal Remains
- Local Burial or Cremation
The policy provides a maximum of $50,000 per traveler for each of these benefits. While option 1 above is included automatically, the traveler must choose either option 2 (Return of Mortal Remains) or option 3 (Local Burial or Cremation) should they die while in the US.
For Option 1 above, the policy will provide emergency medical evacuation and repatriation back to the insured’s home country. Necessary medical services can be provided if incurred during the evacuation.
For Option 2 above, if chosen, the policy will provide the return of the insured’s remains back to their home country.
For Option 3 above, if chosen, the policy will provide local burial or cremation of the insured’s remains.
All services must be arranged by Seven Corner’s Assist to be eligible for benefits.
The policy will also provide Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) benefits while in the US should an accident occur. Below is the table listing what benefits would be provided for various dismemberments:
For loss of life, the benefit will be paid to a beneficiary designated in writing. If no beneficiary has been designated or is deceased, the benefit will be paid to the closest living relative in the following order:
- Spouse
- Child(ren)
- Issue of Deceased Child(ren)
- Parents
- Siblings
- Issue of Deceased Siblings
- Grandparents
- Siblings of Parents
- Your Estate
Exclusions
This policy does NOT cover expenses resulting from disease or illness, hernias, or bacterial infections except those that occur through an accident or wound.
Conclusion
For non-US travelers visiting the US for educational purposes, if only medical evacuation or repatriation back to the home country or burial/cremation services are desired, this can be a good option for coverage. However, no medical benefits are provided, so the traveler should have other medical benefits in place prior to travel.
For the benefits provided, 24/7 Travel Assistance Service is included (provided by Seven Corners Assist). All services listed must be provided by Seven Corners Assist.
Safe travels!
